Students Walk for Free!

We will have scholarships for all area high school and college students who want to participate in the 2023 Abolition Walk. Please forward this newsletter to any Social Studies teachers you know and encourage them to send us an email at AbolitionRoad@gmail.com. We will get their classes registered at no cost.

Choirs on the Canal - Music that Will Move You

The Erie Canalway National Historic Corridor has approved our request for a grant to start this year’s walk with some hearty Gospel music along the banks of the Erie Canal in Canastota. Gerrit Smith: The Philanthropist and Abolitionist

At the heart of Peterboro's involvement in the Underground Railroad was Gerrit Smith, a prominent philanthropist and staunch abolitionist. Smith, a wealthy landowner and influential figure, dedicated his resources and efforts to the cause of ending slavery. He not only provided financial support but also opened his estate to freedom seekers, offering them sanctuary and an opportunity to rebuild their lives.
